CD/MPEG-Player - how do I make them work best?

To play my mp3-files I want to use a portable Medion CD/MPEG-Player with ISO9660 MP3-Playback Playing either 99 Directories or 300 Files.
In a note the user is told not to mix titels with directories, do you think they mean in a directory there should be either directories or files, but not a mix of both?
I already tried to play a cd-rw which I had formated with "roxio direct cd". The MPEG-Player only plays a couple of songs of the cd-rw but doesn´t seem to find all songs on it. Is this because I used the direct cd or becasuse it is a cd-rw?
Do you have any other suggestions on how to store files and so on? I use the format "\[CD-Artist] - [CD-Title]\[CD-Artist] - [CD-Title] ([Song Number]) [Song Title]" so I can sort the songs as they are on the Original-CD and now from which album I took them, even if I mix them. How do you guys do it?
Tanks for your help!

Hmm, if you have, try burning the CD-RW with Nero. Finalize it. If something is missing, try something like 01.mp3 02.mp3 03.mp3 without directories to check if your RW (or way to burn) is the problem. Just try whatever is possible to find out which sheme you can use.

Personally I'm using Artist - Album\Artist - Album - Track - Song.mp3. But then again I think my MP3 player is very tolerant B)
