look for a driver update for your soundcard. I've had the same problem with the soundmax drivers for my onboard sound, i updated them to the microsoft HD audio drivers and all is well.
Who are you and how did you get in here ?
I'm a locksmith, I'm a locksmith.

Download this hotfix from here:

Don't worry, it's digitally signed by Microsoft.

lame. it requires me to have sp2 installed and **** i hate sp2 *cries*

I installed these and I still have this problem. I have an Asus P5RD1-VM with SoundMax Integrated Digital HD Audio onboard... Every time I pause/play it still puts out that white noise.

I have the same problem. I use an Asus A8N-VM CSM with SoundMax. Already wrote Analog Devices an email without respond yet. The kb888111 update helps if you can't install the sounddriver but it doesn't help for our problem.

I have a same problem with A8N-VM CSM... Use kernel streaming plugin for Foobar2000 and everything will be OK. And don't forget to select "KS" in output settings in Foobar2000.

I've had the same problem - the Kernel Streaming output component fixed my problems too.

I think it must be a bug in the SoundMax drivers. It's seriously tempting me to got and actually buy a real soundcard though.

I've got an Asus M2NPV-VM. Kernel streaming fixes this error for me, too.

Another solution:

Control panel -> Multimedia -> Speakers settings -> Specify... -> (second tab, I have XP CZ, so I don't know whats name is in XP EN) -> Hardware acceleration: set it to 2nd => basic acceleration.

Now the white noise is gone, but I think some other problems will arise.

That didn't do the trick for me. Anyone found a solution yet?

Yeah, use Kernel Streaming output plugin

How do I solve the problem with other applications that don't have an option for kernel streaming?
It's not really a satisfying solution.
You can also uninstall the drivers and let windows install High definition ADI 1886 drivers but then you have to abandon some windows functions.
