Possible to make application show up in volume control (windows xp)

I want to do something like this:



Why? I use oAEP to stream music to my airport express. oAEP uses windows recording input to output to the airport. I obviously only want music streamed there so I'm wondering if and how i choose foobar as the recording input in windows.

No, this isn't possible. And if the oAEP program is locked to the windows recording mixer, it will never be able to do what you want (ie only stream the sound from a single program). A little bit of google shows there is a program that does what you want, Airfoil for windows.

I tried that one but the sound became choppy. It's not very good at all.

There is one thing that could produce the effect you want... Do you have an extra soundcard lying around? If you have two sound devices installed you could direct foobar to output only to the second one. Everything else could be left as is. The oAEP app would still be recording the stereo mix, but only one program would be represented.

Also, since you wouldn't actually be outputting anything from the soundcard, you don't have to care about it's quality. Something totally crap would work just as good. Does your mobo have integrated sound that you don't use?

I think it WILL be possible actually in Vista. At least Vista's sound model allows individual apps to have separate volume controls.

Yeah that should work, too bad though I'm using a laptop and any pcmcia-soundboard would be at least a little bit expensive and a separate box would reduce mobility (and would also be kinda pricy)

Well, I'm going to figure this out somehow and when I do I'll post the solution in this thread for others to see.

So, as promised I would reply if I found a solution. It was actually kinda simple: Virtual Audio Cable. This little app creates a virtual cable so you can route audio from any app in windows to any other app. Works like a charm! Nice if this helps anyone but me..
