Yamaha YDS-10

its impossible to find any information on this new i-pod dock that Yamaha has rolled out. It works only with their receivers with a special(proprietary) connection. I want to find out if the audio connection is digital or analog ?

Does that dock send digital audio signal that the receiver decodes ? or is it just like the rest of the docks that simply pass the analog output from the i-pod ?

I saw this post a while back when gathering info on the YDS-10. I ended up buying one for use with my RX-V659 on the reccomendation of a co-worker who used one and thought highly of it's interface.

As per the 659s manual, the audio is transmitted ANALOG, NOT DIGITAL. Bummer. I was hoping for the same thing you were.

Also, the YDS-10 not compatable with 3rd gen iPods, excpet for PLAYBACK ONLY. This was confirmed on the phone with Yamaha tech support this morning. You can't even use the iPod's own controls while it's docked. With a 3rd Gen, it's pretty much only good for dropping your already playing iPod on the dock and finishing whatever is currently playing.

Anyone want a good price on a 3rd Gen 40GB? hahaha! No one reading this post, I'm sure

Anyway, thought I'd finally join and reply to this question that seems to be otherwise unanswered online.

NOT A DIGITAL TRANSMISSION. It's analog audio only from the iPod's dock connector with the YDS-10. Nice on-screen interface though, with the compatible RX-V recievers.

Thats correct. Its only analog, not digital. The only place I was able to find this information was straight from the horse's mouth (yamaha tech support).
