Razor Lame Setting and Others PLease Help

Hi, I am newbie here. but.. need some helps.
I used to use WinDAC 1.53(which I still have) as ripper and Audio Active Production Studio as encoder.
However, now, I want to test out the LAME.
Ok, here is what I have:
- LAME 3.94 alpha 2 setup with EAC.
I am using "%l--alt-preset 128%l%h--alt-preset standard%h %s %d" setting with 192kbit and HQ.
However, it encodes to ABR I believe, but.. not sure. Will someone enlight me? I know it is a VBR, but.. not sure if it is ABR.
Anyway, I want the "BEST QUALITY" preset with good compression. I am looking around 4-5 meg/song(not over 6 meg.)

-Razor Lame setup with that LAME encoder.
I am not sure which setting to use. Please help!
I have seen some stickies for setting, but I haven't seen one for Razor Lame.

You see my main problem is that I own a great ripper PLExtor Wide SCSI 40x. and If I am using EAC and LAME to go straight to MP3, I am not taking the advantage of the fast ripping speed of the PLextor, because it does ripping and encoding track by track. So.. it's not that great.

Also, I always rip chinese songs. And my tag setup is always with chinese tag in idTAgv1.1 and the pinyin(alphabethize chinese) in IdTagv2. Then I rename according to the IdTagv1.1, so that I can have both tags available for my SlimX IRiver player.

So..basically I want to stick with the "fastest ripper" WinDAC and use an frontend encoder that if possible can easily do idTAgging, so that I can avoid having to the "idTAgging" with separate software. Also, the best setting for the encoder. RazorLAME seems to be a good candidate, but.. I do not know what is the best setting. PLEASE Help!

Please look in this thread how to configure EAC that it would read as fast (and secure at the same moment) as it can. Check Paranoos' post  .. i hope he has nothing against it that i post something out of his post:

Under EAC Options, in the Tools tab...
turn on "On extraction, start external compressors queued in the background"
and you want to use only 1 thread at a time.
you can also make it so that you don't see the console window during encoding.

EAC will read continously and encode in the backround.

And i guess you should also read the List of recommended LAME compiles. Still 3.90.2 is recommended

Get this package. The best quality preset you are looking for, "--alt-preset standard", is preselected. No need to worry about any command lines.

Thanks everyone.
I think I finally am going to stick with EAC and LAME since because of the ability to rip all the tracks and encode at the background.
However, as far as tagging, due to my highly picky demand to have two different tags, I guess I have to go with "ultratagger" to do the job.
Or possibly "tag and renamer". Just need a bit of getting used to, that is all.

Ohyea, the "fast extreme" sounds kinda cool, it's really fast and the compression is just about what I want 4.5-5.5meg.
I haven't really listened to the quality, but I trust what you guys said that it is "HQ"
Ohyea, I think I am going to stick with 3.94 alpha 2, because I see the 3.902 version is from 2001, which is a while a now, almost 2 years.
I am sure there is some improvements done in that long period of time. Plus, I am not all that picky, because SlimX can enhance the sound more if I need any enhancement.

BTW, if anyone is getting an mp3 player, get SlimX. I have experienced many mp3 players, from IPOD to NOmad JUkebox3, to Riovolt sp250, sp100, but so far, slimX is the one that I used the most.
the SP-100, and sp-250 sounded just as good, but a bit bulky. BTW, riovolt is just OEM for Iriver.
IPod is cool, but the sound quality isn't that great.
Nomad Jukebox 3 has great sound DSP system, but... not enough bass, which they have fixed, but.. it is a bit bulky and the LCD is not nice at all.
SlimX-2 will be the best, but.. I don't see a point to waste the money on it yet despite the fact that I do need the chinese display, but.. my SlimX is able to display 80% of the chinese words when I rename the mp3s in chinese anyway, so.. I am satisfied. However, if I am getting an mp3 player, definitely go for SlimX original imp-350 or SlimX2 imp-400.

Anyway, thank y'all, I really appreaciate it.
hey, update me with this kind of stuffs! I love it, but.. sometimes too lazy to look around. I am new here, and so far, this place is great. hehe...

More like a year, not really 2 years.  Look at the month also.

This is incorrect.  There have been no significant improvements to quality since 3.90.2.  If you count the 3.94 alpha 2 release, it is better in some cases, but those improvements only really come from the last month and a half, and there are some bugs in the build you are using.  Plus, it hasn't been tested as much as is really needed.

I don't really understand what you mean with this.  If the mp3s you encode are of low quality, "enhancement" is not going to fix that. Mexico City
