Question about DFX for winamp

i always loved DFX for winamp, and set it up for foobar, but the thing is;

when i disable it, a very sharp decrease in sound quality occurs....

i don't think it's fair, i dont think it's completely subjective and delusional.. i guess the plug-in is messing up the way the mp3s are processed... i also lived this back when i was using winamp...

anyone with proved info????

edit: i know there are lots of anti dsp plugin fellows in here but hey, sorry i dont have a high tech top quality sound system

edit 2: also, if some good fellow could spare some time to explain how it's fidelity and ambience functions work, that'll be great for me.....
