Trouble with OGG and WMP

Hi guys!  I have a quick question, which I can't seem to figure out.

I have an AVI file, video encoded with XVID, audio encoded with OGG ("ogg_vorbis_1 (0x674f) Ogg Vorbis" from GSpot).  Using VLC, the video and audio play perfectly.  With WMP, I never have any problem playing back the video, but the audio is very strange.  It is extremely loud and distorted.

I have tried Illiminable DirectShow Filters (http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/), Vorbis Ogg ACM Codec 1.0 (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Vorbis_Ogg_ACM.htm), and OggDS0995 (I cannot remember where this came from). Using OggDS (either 995 or 996, actually) I get that heavily distorted sound (like turning a radio near a station, but with lots of static and very loud).  With just the Illiminable filters, WMP won't open the file (even though GSpot claims the codec is installed).  The Ogg ACM codec also doesn't let WMP open the AVI file.  Another program, RadLight, does allow for audio, but the video is strange - I can't really explain it, but it's like if you took a still picture, and then some of it moves like a video, but other parts don't.  That's really weird to me, since isn't this only supposed to be an audio thing?

Anyway, I could just use VLC, but I'd rather use just WMP rather than several apps.

Thanks very much in advance!

The first thing is that when you mix diferent filters for the same codec is very problematic... second, Vorbis have serious problems with AVI, AVI is an old format that can't handle vorbis fine....

This is probably one solution... try to remux it in a more flexible container (Matroska) and uninstall all the vorbis codecs you have... install CoreVorbis and Halli Media Splitter then try to play it...

Are you sure it's an AVI and not something else with the wrong extention?

What I would do is open it in graphedit to see what filters are being used.
Another thing I would check is the replaygain, the vorbis decoder from oggds0995 will show this information. You said it sounded very loud and distorted, this could happen if somebody used ~+50dB gain

Hi... not sure who would make such a file... but if it's an avi, my directshow filters will definately not be able to or even attempt to play it.

Thanks everyone for their advice.  I don't think it has the wrong extension.  Wouldn't Gspot not be able to handle it if that were the case?  In any case, I will attempt your advice, and hopefully something might work!  Thanks guys!
