Sennheiser HD555 and it's "Surround reflector"

Hello all  I am going to buy a pair of Sennheiser headphones, and since i can't afford a pair of HD600/650 then i am thinking about buying a pair of HD555. The HD555 has something called an internal "Surround reflector" which is supposed to give "An extremely spatial sound reproduction", and they also market the model as "Ideal for Home Cinema and music". My priorities are to get as pure and uncolored a sound reproduction as possible, without any added effects or anything like that, and i am also just going to use them for listening to music on my computer, and not for movies or games or anything like that. I would then like to ask you people, if you think that it's a bad choise for me to get these headphones because of the "Surround reflector", or if you think that it won't hurt or color the sound at all ? Sennheiser also has a little cheaper model called HD515, which don't have this surround thinggy, so i am a little torn about if i should get that one instead, but since i have read reviews of the HD515 where the reviewers said that it wasen't a good buy, since for just a little more money the big brother HD555 where a much better headphone, then i would really appreciate if any of you could tell me if this surround thinggy of the HD555 is a bad thing for listening to music only, or if you think that it won't hurt the natural sound reproduction at all ?

Yes, the HD-555 Senns are perfect for plain stereo music, don't let the marketing gimmicks scare you away. IMO the HD-555's aren't as good as HD-595's though, but many will argue the slight sound quality improvement isn't worth the price difference.

Thank you so much for your reply, as this kind of feedback is exactly what i needed before making the purchase  I am going to buy two pair of headphones, one for me and one for my father(as a gift), so i just wanted to make sure that i wasen't making a bad choise. The HD-555's are very comfortable head phones.  They have a nice airy sound and really great for home listening.

They aren't really designed for portables or for use in noisy situations, but if used for home entertainment you should love them.  They do require a bit more power to properly drive than most portables can provide.  If you try plugging straight into an iPod per say, it will sound somewhat muted and have almost no life to it.

Thank you very much for your reply  I am going to use the headphones at home only, to listen to music on my PC. I don't mind that they are of the circumaural open type, as i have read that they will produce a better sound than the closed ones(at HeadRoom). I am using an Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 LT soundcard, which has a built-in headphone amp, so i hope that the card can power the headphones well enough. Again, thank you very much for your reply, i really appreciate it

I would just like to say many thank's again to niktheblak and JunkieXL for their input that made me buy the Sennheiser HD 555 headphones. I use them together with an Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 LT soundcard that has a build-inn headphone amp, and i couldn't be happier  I can trully recommend these headphones to others looking for a good pair of Sennheisers to a great price.
