Best recordings of Dvorak's Symphonies?

I recently came into possession of some classical CD's; Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 5, Dvorak's Symphony no.7 and no. 9, Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture and 2 versions of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite. The ones that cought my attention the most were the Dvorak pieces and Tchaikovsky's 5th, but these CD's leave a lot to be desired, I was  wondering wether any of the Classical buffs around here could give me some tips on good recordings of these pieces.

For the dvorak symphonies the penguin guide recommends Mackerras with LPO (london symph. orc. I think): CfP 2-CD 5757612.
The Gramophone guide recommends symphony no. 7: Sir Colin Davis with LSO: Ph. Duo 438 347-2PM2.
For no. 9 it recommends: Dorati with RPO: 430 702-2DM

For Tchaikovsky's 5th the penguin guide recommends Gergiev with VPO: Ph. 462 905-2.
Gramophone says Jansons with OPO: Chandos CHAN8351

I recommend the penguin guide then. The gramophone guide doesn't list as many recordings.

I just bought Tchaikovsky's 5th, Gergiev with VPO: Ph. 462 905-2, even though you said it was recommended by the penguin guide, the cover says "Gramophone's Choice", I haven't heard it though, it's a Christmas present to myself along with some other CD's. I also got Brahms' 4th with Klieber/VPO, and Beethoven's 5th and 7th by Bohm/BPO on Deutsche Grammophon's MSdW series (this one i have heard, altho it's in mono and a vinyl transfer, it was a  good performance).

Good as in interpretation, performance, fidelity?  Many outstanding recordings were made 20-50+ years ago that set the standards for interpretation, musicianship, phrasing, etc. but the sound quality is poor.  Neverless, I, as would many others, would prefer these over current recordings that are churned out by second-rate orchestras tryin to earn a dollar.  There are current recordings they sound great and are of decent musicianship, though - which are you looking for?

I agree with your view on modern recordings, I would say the Beethoven album I bought is a good performance/interpretation, that's why I bought it in spite of the recording quality, but choosing classical pieces has it's trick, I wouldn't buy an album that has a good performance from a reputable orchestra but has really bad production (my first Dvorak 9th symphony CD clips horribly, it was a budget CD).
