The original message from Billy Corgan:

I don't really know what to think of this. In a way, I'm excited because the Smashing Pumpkins were one of my all-time favorite rock bands. But then again, I don't expect them to match the quality of Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie again, nor do I expect them to create the same kind of impact they created on the rock scene during the early nineties. A touch of nostalgia? Maybe...

I also wonder who will complete the line-up, besides Jimmy and Billy. I can't imagine both James and D'Arcy joining the band again.

What do you guys think? Any comments?
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.

I am a definite fan of The Smashing Pumpkins.  I wouldn't say "huge", but I have a number (5-6?) of their albums.

I am always a little reticent to hear of bands reforming.  I haven't heard much more about the Pixies since "Bam Thwok", which was not that good.

There seems to be very few bands who can carry the standard for more than 2-3 albums.  I think perhaps old rockers should be shot after a few years.  That may be a little harsh.  It may also be untrue.

The Zwan album was pretty poor in my book.  I would never give up on Billy Corgan though.  He is definately one of the few genii of that era.

If your concerns are right and James and D'Arcy do not contribute surely it is not really The Smashing Pumpkins?  Billy talks in those articles of "family" and "roots".

I think, nostalgically, you may be better to lie in a darkened room, turn Gish up very loud, and pretend you are 14 years younger than you are now...
I'm on a horse.

I don't think they will have any impact on the rock scene anymore. Alternative reigne basically ended during the late 90's with the electronic music scene in the U.S. Those were some great time. Nowadays the industry in the U.S is largely dominated by Gangsta Rap and incorrectly labelled emo culture (bunch of crap if you want my opinion) (thank god for the internet).  How can they match the quality of Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie for that matter? those were two amazing albums I grew up with when I was younger, especially around that grunge period.  I am sure their were will be quite a few people who take notice of it though  (including die-hard fans who will appreciate it through and through)

I am a die-hard fan (just see my SN), they're number one with me.
TFE is awesome, and I am hyped that Billy wants to bring em back. I doubt D'arcy will be back in, but maybe Melissa?

I didn't gave an ear at the album but the EP. I found it very far in quality from what he wrote before (Thru the eyes of ruby for example).
I'm a huge fan (you know all the albums, huge pile of bootlegs...) but I'm afraid : reforming the band to play his disapointing last record...
And I won't even talk about Zwan !
