The album is available to pre-order in Warpmart now, and for the first time ever will be dowloadable from Bleep in FLAC lossless audio.

Sweet! IDM is such a cool genre. Warp has given us a lot of top artists in IDM Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson), Apex Twin (Richard James), etc this should be a good one.  It's pretty cool they are releasing it encoded with FLAC.

finally!  hopefully others will follow suit soon.  ive emailed itunes requesting that they offer songs in alac.  i kinda think they might be the first major music store to do this, because of their own lossless codec, that, afaik, supports their DRM...  i would go back to using itunes if they offered lossless, assuming jhymn still works so i can convert alac to whatever i want (wavpack).

If you bought a song from iTunes in the ALAC format, you would probably be able to burn it to CD and then simply rip it back in whatever lossless or lossy format you want.  Since the source ALAC file was lossless, you wouldn't lose any quality in the conversion as far as I know...

...So wouldn't a burnable ALAC file kind of defeat the whole purpose of DRM?  When you think about it, the only reason we don't burn and re-rip the AAC files is because they would lose quality in the conversion from one lossy format to another, but that problem wouldn't exist with a lossless file  .

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Don't forget my fave from that camp, Boards of Canada!  It's too bad "IDM" is such a pretentious title for the music itself.  Warp actually began as an old skool house/techno label and long ditched the confines of the 4/4 structure for the sounds that they furnish today.

youre right, you could burn and rerip.  using jhymn is just more convienent.  besides, its such a cool program.

you are also right about drm being kinda pointless.  there will always be ways around it.  i think that the big companies have already accepted that (if not, they will realize it soon).  unfortunately, id say that the average user is unaware of the workarounds, and therefore will be subject to the limitations of drm'ed music.

regardless, i just want itunes to offer music in alac, because i want to support my artists, but am sick of paying $15+ for a cd.  but then again, could i trust apple's ripping techniques???  anyways, im just looking for progress.

It really is though if you think about it. I think braindance is a better name for the genre, because that's what it is experimental electronic music that tends to be really complicated.
