5 1/4" Speakers vs. 6"x8" Speakers

I'm going to replace the factory speakers in my Mazda3. The hole in the door is 6"x8". I'm wondering which will sound better, especially at high volume. A round 5 1/4" speaker, or a 6"x8" speaker. Both will fit.

I read on the Mazda forums that oval speakers distort more with high volume and/or low frequencies. I'm not sure if that I believe that.

Ultimately, I will add a subwoofer to the system, if that makes any difference on door speaker choices.

Thanks,

Indybrett

There are (or have been) famous oval speakers: the KEF B139 and the TDL 3021. Distortion does more depend on the craftsmanship of the manufacturer than generally on the shape.
Sorry I cannot help with your question

Thanks. I think I'm going to go with some 6x8 Infinity speakers.
