What do you mean install?
Are you refering to Vorbis tools?
They really aren't installed.  Just extract the zip file somewhere and point your ripper to vorbisenc.exe

What ripper/encoder program do you use?
The latest CDex (1.5b6) has the 1.0 DLL included.  EAC needs to pe pointed at vorbisenc.exe

Does it really help to know which OS im using? Um.. Win XP Professional
Um.. What do you mean point? Sorry Im quite new and all..
And also.. which things to download they're so many stuffs such as Ogg Vorbis Win32 SDK (1.0), libogg source (1.0), libvorbis source (1.0), vorbis-tools source (1.0) and libao source (0.8.3). Sorry to get everything cramped up..

What you you want to do?  Just encode?

All you really need is the vorbis-tools package, not the source.  Hell jsut the DLLs for your brogram or oggenc.exe will work fine.

what do you want to do?
What are you using?
Ripper program?

http://www.vorbis.com/download_win.psp > Encoders / Jukeboxes

Ogg Drop and OggDropXPd are for deagging and dropping files to encode pre-ripped wave files.

vorbis-tools is the command line tools for other rippers

Using Easy CD-DA Extractor 4.7.2 to just rip off some CD tracks..
I guess I will use CDex 1.5 B6 thanks man..

And btw, isn't there a way to just rip off automatically to OGG. files?
So far all I know is that you must rip it to WAV Files.

Hmm... In CDex (the new beta version) you can select Ogg Vorbis compression, in which case it will rip each CD audio track to .WAV, then automatically convert to .OGG files (AFAIK).

Argghhhh.. getting frustrating here..
Is there a way I can make all work in Easy CD-DA Extractor 4.7.2?
It's not working for me in CDex 1.5 beta 6

That's a shame, it works peachy for me (win2K server) except for the lack of a q-1 setting. That'll come in the next release apparently.

Isomatic, I think what you are asking for is something like John33 OggDropXPd, at

http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/ogg.html

and maybe some updated libraries for CDex (there as well)

But is not generally recommended to the compression 'on the fly'.

Greetings.

Why not?

AFAIK, the output is identical to CDA -> WAV -> OGG.

True... if the ripping proccess is entirely successful, but not of jitter errors kick in...

Just thoughts...

I would expect the ripper to do the error correction before sending the data to the app?

AFAIK, CDex does the error correction before sending the data to the DLL.

Isometic - go to www.dbpoweramp.com and download their music converter - it's free. Also download their OGG codec from their codec page.

dBpowerAMP will rip directly to OGG, and the codec is made on Vorbis 1.0

well, EAC and CDex are freeware and do the same job

Yes - dbPowerAMP is freeware.
It's true that the powerpack expansion costs money.
But the PowerPack expansion is only needed if you want to use their CLI Encoders, which are needed for various oddball formats.
Luckily, OGG Vorbis doesn't fall into that category - so you can use their OGG codec free of charge.

...like MPC? MPC is not what I regard as an "oddball format".

of that for free. And it has a secure mode, it burns CDs, it has a Wave editor.... now give me one good reason why to use dBPowerAmp over EAC.

    *shakes head*

Using on-fly encoding, even with a monster computer, you are creating too[/b] intermittent re-synchs and readings for the CD player pickup, the "seek failure" probability is very high.

CDaudio sectors aren't well seeakable as data CD (if I am not wrong the audio CD layout hasn't seek reference data!!!), therefore sequential non-stop reading is best way to rip audio tracks (the jitter problem is mosly due to onfly resynch).

Infact most of times, you can do an easy 2-pass (copy+test) even using burst mode (no real-time checks, no stops, very linear) with EAC at medium speed (16-24x) to obtain a perfect audio rip, without spent lot of time with secure mode, that is NOT SECURE AT ALL. (trick is to use test, it gives *secure* feedback!)

P.S.: I have ASUS-50x, tried also with other units.
"Taking a jazz approach and concentrating on live playing, I wanted to use several different rhythm sections and vintage instruments and amps to create a timeless sound that's geared more around musicality and vibe than sonic perfection. The key was to write with specific rhythm sections in mind, yet leave open spaces for soloing." Lee Ritenour

This should be the case if there is some sort of intelligent buffering done -- it rips at whatever speed the ripping should go at, and buffers data that comes in too fast for the encoder to deal with (esp. if your computer is slow).  Back years ago I used an on-the-fly encoder that didn't do this -- when data was coming it from the CD too fast for the encoder to keep up with, it'd pause ripping and let the encoder catch up, then resync and start ripping again.  This makes ripping errors much more likely.  But hopefully CDex doesn't do this.

I personally like ripping to WAV first, but encoding simultaneously (so the 1st track is encoding WAV->[mp3/ogg] while the 2nd one is ripping CD->WAV).  EAC for Windows and grip for Linux can do this (and probably others; those are the only two I've tried).

It's up to the individual to decide whats odd and whats not.
You might be surprised about how many people thinking that MP3 is the one and only way of saving music onto a computer, and MP3 isn't a fileformat - it's a name for illegal distribution of music over the internet.
OGG is (sadly enough) considered an oddball-format to 95% of the fileshares on the internet - same goes for MPC.

I agree with you that EAC offers more.
But let's look at what is needed in this specific case.
A CD-Ripper that rips to OGG.
Well - dBpowerAMP does that - for free - it's easy to customize the tagging, etc...
So - I think it's easier to use than EAC og CDex.
And judging from Isomatics comments - he does seem like the kind of user who likes things easy. No offense, Isomatic
Comparing dbpoweramp to EAC is like comparing Paint Shop Pro to Photoshop or Publisher to InDesign. While the Photoshop and InDesign can produce a better result, it might just end up worse if your a newbie.
I recently changed from dbpoweramp to CDex.
But there are many options in CDex I am yet to understand.
