How do I test burned CD's for errors?

I have a Plextor PX-708A and I want to determine the optimum speed for writing Audio CD's using TY 52x CD-R media.

What is the best way to compare discs done at different speeds to determine the cleanest burn?

What you want is scanning for C1 errors.

The software is called KProbe and only work with LiteOn or some Samsung drives.
PlexTools Pro only works with Plextor Premium, I think.
I'm not sure, but the last version of CDSpeed might do the job as well as KProbe, but on the same drives as KProbe.

Confirmed.

PlexTools Pro can work with a lot of drives, but its Q-Check functions (including the C1/C2/CU test) will only work with a Premium or a PX-712A. That's the official info, feel free to experiment.

With drives not on the compatibility list CD Speed can report C2 errors only. Not much help, but should you get even one C2 error (very unlikely with a properly functioning Plextor and TY media) consider burning another copy at a lower speed.

TY media are so good already, IMO just burn it at the fastest speed. I have 48X plextor CD-RW, burned TY at 48X, using Lite-on DVD/CDRW combo and Nero CD-speed to scan for C1/C2 errors, only has like 3 C1 errors. (In contrast, CMC media can have C1 errors in the ten thousands).

If you are still worried about burn quality, 16X is probably safe enough, even for cheap media.

I'll be damned.  I have a PX-708A so I fired up Plextools, and you're right -- it won't let me enter the Q-Check functions.  Good think I've got a PX-Premium, too.  :-)
