Archiving compressed audio onto DVD

Hi, I've had a search around the forums and couldn't find anything that seem relevant to my question, so I'll ask it instead

I currently have my cd collection archived to HDD in various compression schemes (ogg/mp3/flac etc).  Its got to the point where I'm slightly nervous about those shiny little glass platters colliding, so I'd like to backup my collection to dvd in case the worst happens

I cannot seem to find any software that will allow me to select X Gb of data and span that across multiple DVDs in a fashion that leaves each DVD seperately readable *and* crucially the same application can be re-run when my collection expands (as these things tend to do as one buys more CDs!) but will only archive off the 'new' items, that it hasn't archived previously.  I cannot be the only person out there who wants this functionality ?    Any ideas ?

Have a look at Dantz Retrospect.

The easiest way is to use WinRAR and archive your files over multiple volumes using recovery record and adding authenticity verification. These files can later be burnt using any standard burning software. My personal choice is Stomp Recordnow Max 6.5. If you are extra paranoid, you can create MD5 files of each music file and store them in the archives itself to verify that your data is intact when you expand them-but that is serious overkill as WinRAR itself puts in CRC checking. I seriously don't think you need any high-tech software to do the job.

That function you're trying to perform is called "backing up," and any good backup software will work for you.

Never_Again mentioned Dantz Retrospect, which is a good choice, available in a workstation version for about $40.  There is also Seagate Backup Exec, but I think it's pretty pricey, and don't overlook the free, built-in Windows "NtBackup.exe."

Rohangc mentioned a somewhat manual method of archiving that has the disadvantage that it doesn't meet your criteria for "but will only archive off the 'new' items."  That's the job of backup software.
