I haven't visited the site in awhile and I use LAME 3.90.3 (recommended compile) for my encoding. Well I deleted the file today by accident and had to download it again. After I downloaded the new file I could no longer use --preset standard and it gives this error:

I noticed the download host was different too, I recall originally downloading it directly from hydrogenaudio.org NOT rarewares.org which is where the recommended link now points to. Now this leads me to my question: is their file corrupted, is it a different 3.90.3 compile, and where could I find the recommended compile I originally downloaded? It was not a corrupt download/unpack on my end, I've downloaded it at least 7 times so far. I've also downloaded the different versions they have in their directory but only one seems to work and the .zip is not titled the same as the original I downloaded (I have no way knowing what is what). Any help? Maybe someone knows what is up with these new links

3.90.3+modified is the version you wish to use

Thanks. I guess I have another question then, is there anything new in the new recommended compile other than having to type --alt-preset standard the long way again? The 'modified' had to have been the recommended link earlier for me to have downloaded it (I always clicked the link in the recommended compile thread).

There was a period of time where the 3.90.3 "standard bundle" download on rarewares was actually (by mistake) a version of the modified bundle.  So you probably downloaded that.  This was fixed in early February.  You can read about it here: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=18346

Thanks phwip that explains it pretty well. I have had the file for quite some time so I am sure that is what happened. Although I still don't remember downloading it from rarewares, but maybe I was thinking of an earlier version and just forgot. Doesn't seem like I am affected much at all by this.

i was installing oddcast, when it said i needed to download the latest version of lame encoder. so i downloaded lame 3.97. then i extracted the files, and clikced on the .exe, a dos black screen flashed up then went off real fast. i then clicked onti oddcast done everything i followed, went to connect, and the following happens check image below>>>


PLEASE HELP!!!

I don't know anything about oddcast but I do know that 3.97 is alpha and not stable. What you want is the  latest stable version of Lame which is 3.96. This probably doesn't solve your problem though...

The error in the ODDCAST window says "error with lame_enc.dll" and you refer to the exe.
You most probably have lame.exe, when ODDCAST needs lame_enc.dll!

The dll usually comes with the exe in the download. But it has to be copied to the Windows system folder, right? Maybe that's the problem?

Oddcast works with just about any version of lame_enc.dll. E.g. 3.96 stable. Foobar2000 version of oddcast demands lame_enc.dll to be be put in same directory as foobar2000.exe. Don't know how this is with Winamp version.

Worth mentioning: Oddcast2/Icecast2 does also stream Ogg Vorbis....

Whether there is a dll in the package depends on what Lame package you're downloading, as there is a variety of different versions and compiles thereof hosted by different people.

And no, the dll doesn't necessarily go in Windows' system folder. It typically goes in the directory of the program that will be using it, for example C:\Program Files\AudioGrabber\ if you're using it with the CD-ripper AudioGrabber.
