Dolby Digital Information lost if demxing AC3 frot

Hi,

I have a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Player Soundcard and a Creative 7.1 T7700 Loudspeaker System.

Whenever I playback avi files with ac3 content (i ripped the matrix and demuxed the audio to ac3) the front center speaker is not audible. I am using ac3filter to decode the ac3 inside the avi file while playback in mediaplayerclassic from gabest.

However, when I playback the Matrix DVD in PowerDVD, the front center speaker is audible.

The creative support guys told me that the dolby digital information was lost during ripping. But that can't be true since I demuxed the audio to an ac3 file and just inserted it as a stream in vdubmod.

Is this loss of Dolby Digital Information true, or does the ac3filter just not work correctly?

Thx

What happens if you just play the ripped VOB files?

The latest Media Player Classic has its own AC3 decoder built in and it is enabled by default. It is also configured to downmix to stereo by default. You might want to look into reconfiguring it. The options you want are under Filters -> Audio Decoders. You could also disable it from the Filters page, but it uses the same exact decoder as AC3Filter.

I'd check your AC3filter settings.  Make sure you're using the right channels configuration, and it sounds like you could use some DRC as well.

And as kode54 said make sure you're not using the built in decoder.

I wouldn't listen to the Creative guys.

There's nothing wrong with the built-in decoder. Just make sure it's configured properly.

I just saw that there is a
"Trombettworks Channel Downmixer"
enabled. Does anyone know how to configure or preferablly remove this program?
Of course only if this could be the solution to my problem, because i did the other stuff you told me.

Thx
