EAC timing problems

I have been ripping with EAC for a while.  In just the last few CDs, I am getting more and more "Timing problem"s  While it's ripping, you can see the time displays by the status bars go real fast and the slow down, real fast...  And the log shows multiple timing problems.  The CDs are near-perfect and there are no read or sync errors.

LAME encodes fine and the files seem OK, but I haven't listened to all of them.  Should I be concerned?  Is my CD drive (actually NEC DVD) wearing out?

Thanks!

One other thing I noticed.  My CD drive LED used to stay on while ripping in the past.  Now that these timing problems have started, it blinks and then the hard drive LED blinks back and forth.

What mode are you ripping in? I thought that the timing problem error only came from Burst mode.

"Timing Problem" just means that the CD-ROM took a little longer than normal to read the data from the CD, and is not indicative in any way of errors in your rip.

However, these problems only occur in Burst mode, and for an accurate rip, you should really be using Secure mode...

I found that option and I was on burst.  Don't know how that happened.  Guess I'll have to blame the cats...

Sorry to resurrect an old post but I wanted to add I was experiencing the same problem and found an answer to the problem (for me at least).  I tried using the "Spin up drive before extraction" option in Drive Options > Drive and that got rid of the Timing Problem errors in Burst mode.  Just thought I'd post this to help others that read this post looking for an answer.

you could also try switching to secure mode and see what that does?

Yeah you could switch to secure mode since there would be no timing problems whatsoever.  But if you want to use burst mode but get rid of the timing problems I found spinning up the drive before extraction works to do this.
