Replacement for ESPlaylist

Previously I was using an obsolete 32 bit version of foobar with ESPlaylist. There was an option that would force-sort all my playlists, including stuff from library viewer, without me having to click.

Now I have upgraded to foobar 2.1.5 x64 and am trying to redo all of my old UI but this time in Columns UI and the user-components that are available for this build and architecture. I can sort things manually with the context menu, and they will come out correct, but it is a pain to do this everytime.

Under Preferences -> Display -> Columns UI -> Playlist View -> Grouping I have it set so it groups correctly, but when I look at the playlist, the groups are still listed based on directory structure. The albums are all grouped correctly, but instead of starting at the earliest date, and having the music from 2024 at the bottom, the order just reflects the directory structure I have, with the alphabetized directory entries coming first, not the earliest chronological entries.

I am willing to change settings and look into other user-components I haven't installed to try and fix this, as well, if it can't be solved with my current configuration. Someone please point me in the correct direction?

Hi there,

Grouping is not the same as sorting - you need to change the sorting for whatever library viewer you are using to send tracks to the playlist (in other words, library viewer sorts tracks first, then playlist viewer groups tracks).

If using CUI library 'Filters' that would be Preferences > Display > Columns UI > Filters > Behaviour tab > 'Sort tracks...'

Unfortunately if using ReFacets, there is no option to default sort the playlist currently (it always sorts by %path%) - something which has been mentioned and requested here several times. So in that case you can only manually resort tracks, short of renaming all folders to include %date% first, which is a bit ridiculous.

(No word from Peter if any option is planned to fix this or when that might happen...)
