Buffer length vs Hardware buffer

Hello,

In Foobar2000, I use WASAPI Event output.  Can someone please explain the difference between these two buffer settings?

1.  Playback --> Output --> Buffer length
2.  Advanced -->  Playback --> WASAPI --> Hardware buffer in MS - Event Mode: 25 (default value)

When would you adjust one vs. the other?

Thanks.

The first one is the total buffer length, the second one is only applicable to the WASAPI output and controls how much of that first one is a hardware buffer. The latter should be really short, and should only be changed in any way if it outright fails to function with your device.

Thank you.

So if you are experiencing occasional very brief gaps in audio, you would adjust the first setting and not the second, correct?
