How to Rip a CD into a single MP3 file?

I have recently purchased a CD player for my car which can also read MP3 files. My plan was to copy my CD's into MP3 format so I don't have as many CDs filling up the glove compartment.
I have read similar threads on this forum regarding MP3 burning and removing the gaps etc. but I have a feeling that the gaps I can hear on my mix CDs are a result of the player 'loading' the next track and so I'm not sure that editing the MP3 files themselves will actually help me.
Besides I'm not sure I can be bothered with all the hassle. I just want good tunage for the road. I appreciate I will lose the individual Tags for each track -but lets face it I should be concentrating on the traffic anyways!!
I have Nero burning s/w on a Win 98 PC.
Any 'simple' suggestions would be most welcome. B)

And even CDex! "Extract a section of the CD" and select the whole CD in the dialog that pops up.

Edit: added the link. PS The site is down at the moment, u might want to try it a bit later.

Use EAC under Action & Copy Range, you can choose to copy compressed or uncompressed.

You'll then be able to select how much you want to rip, if you leave it at the default settings it'll rip the whole cd as a single file.

Use EAC under Action & Copy Range...

...or better yet, "Copy Image & Create CUE Sheet".

I think it couldn't read image & cue sheet. ;-)

Apparently the 'All2Lame' frontend makes gapless mp3s but I couldn't get it to work. Maybe that's because I'm on XP?

No its because LAME's gapless support is experimental.  It works sometimes, but f***s up here and there.

So it will work under XP? I hope so then I'll persevere with it, I need gapless. If only LAME could do this already..
