how can i increase volume in foobar

one of my flac folders has the content recorded a bit too low, the bands on the vumeter touch the -20 but no more

as a consequence, the maximum volume (at -0.0db) is too low

can i do anything in foobar to compensate for this?

thank you

sorry if this is the wrong section to post this question

p.s. i have 1.3.17 ver installed

In preferences>playback menu there is a section called "Preamp" and you can boost your volume there.

If you ReplayGain scanned all your music and used it during playback, you would never have to worry about loudness issues. You could start the wonderful habit from that directory that is too quiet.

you mean that if i listen to a normal one and come back to this low volume recording, foobar will take some info from a file and get it back to normal volume?

Yes, ReplayGain is a volume correction stored in every file, and foobar can read this information. The audio data is not modified, just the playback.

You can let foobar scan your entire library automatically, and then it will be compared to a standard reference volume, but you can also edit those tags manually if you want a change in only a few files.

I use foo_dsp_vlevel - https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,65889.0.html
This plugin working fine for me. Fine and little compression of sound, not boosted volume with reduced and killed Dynamic Range.

Here's my settings:
Strength - 0.80
Max Multiplier - +12 db or +20 db
Buffer Length - 2 s

Are you suggesting that Replay Gain kills dynamic range?
How?

Same as my little brother. He basically wants quiet music to be quiet, and loud music to be loud.
