New to Foobar2000 Question

I have been looking for a new audio media player ever since Napster went down then I got rid of my Iphone (no more Itunes) for an android phone. Just discovered foobar2000 through watching a Z review youtube video, now I want it.

My question is what is the best way to install it on my computer? I have an SSD (120Gig) that I use for My OS ndl my main  programs and a mechanical 465 Gig that I use for my storage. I dont have a a server , NAS or any other devices (yet) other than my Samsung Galaxy. What is the portable install type option and what does it mean in the portable selection "does not support file association"?

Thanks in Advance

RenaissanceMan:  "portable" install means all the files and settings that Foobar needs are installed to a folder of your choice;  nothing is put into the registry or anywhere outside of that folder.

Portable does not support auto file association (i.e. making Foobar automatically open music file types) because the registry is not used.  However, you can still make Windows auto-open a music file with it by using the "OpenWith.." context menu, navigating to foobar2000.exe, and being sure "always use this program to open this file type" is checked.  That action of course will make Windows (not Foobar) create a registry entry for that particular case.

I also first found Foobar from watching Z and thought it looked ideal (minus the dubious under-age Japanese cartoon backgrounds of course!) iirc he actually has a pretty good vid on his own setup.

If you tend to do your listening on one device then go for the full install. Portable works pretty well, i use one an external hard drive just for messing around with customisation and trying things out. Full install runs a little better imo also.

Cheers

Yes, 'better' is a bit ambiguous. I find The full install runs a bit faster than portable.

May well be a hardware thing though as it is a fairly old external hd. So to the OP ymmv, that was just from my own experience.
