Anyone got the FiiO E7/E09K setup?

If so, I don't wish to crosspost the entire thing -- but please check out the head-fi thread I posted earlier today (including audio) of a problem I'm having:

I read about the early E7 models have static on the DAC output, but mine has a constant low level high frequency whine - and channel imbalance. Anyone who owns this hardware, do you think this is a fault of the dock or the portable amp? (which seems to work fine on its own directly via USB)

I have a xonar essence one and it does have a channel imbalance at very low volume 5-10%. It doesn't bother me since I never listen to such low volumes.
Does your channel imbalance sustains regardless on volume level? 8db is a lot. Guess it is very fatiguing to listen to. I think you should sent it back for repairs or replacement.

I own the E07K, it doesn´t show any of the faults you described.

But if I remember correctly, FiiO stated that a combination of E7 & E09K might produce problems (they didn´t specify), therefore they didn´t recommend it. Instead of the E09K they recommended the older E9 for the E7.

I have the E7 on it's own and never experience any of those issues. I have some sensitive IEMs and there is no noise on the output at all that I can detect, compared to my almost new laptop which has a very low hiss (very, very low) but enough to annoy me

I've found that it is not uncommon for certain headphone amps and DACs or digital players to be pretty noisy when run from the same USB power supply or different USB outputs on the same PC.

Moving the headphone amp to an independent wall-wart style USB power supply can have pretty dramatic benefits. Given the low cost of these little power supplies, its probably worth a try.
