Best FLAC CD-R burning software for Window 8.....Burrrn or...?

I still like to burn CDs for myself.  I have most of my music now in FLAC after using EAC.  I was burning CD-Rs with Burrrn mostly on my Windows 7 PC.
But I just got a new Windows 8.1 PC and was wondering my best options software wise for burning CD-Rs from my FLAC collection.

Why not just use foobar with foo_burninate? Gives you access to all the DSP/RG/HDCD decoding foobar has and I never had problems with the quality of the burned CDs.

Ok I'll check into Foobar for that.  I've had Foobar on my Windows 7 PC but have not really had the time to learn how to set it up as it can be, as it is so customizable and take a fair bit of learning on how to do all the stuff it can do.  I do have it setup for my DLNA server to my stereo.  But will check into your suggestion.  I've just not had a lot of time for these type of software programs the last few years as they take much more time to learn to operate and setup fully.  I was also converting FLAC to MP3 with Foobar but I'd have to retrain myself on that as it has been awhile.

If Burrrn still works under Windows 8.1 on your new PC, it's sure hard to beat for ease of use.

I don't know if it does yet.  I was hoping to find if it works on 64bit Windows 8.1 prior to installing it.  Would rather not install it if it does not work.  The only posts on the web that I've found say it does not

I recall that Burrrn is a very lightweight program. Easy to install and easy to uninstall. Try it and if it doesn't work for you, uninstall it and then look for something else. People have run into problems with it prior to Windows 8, so I'm not sure it's the OS that is the issue.

Have you tried using EAC for burning?

EAC certainly works, but it requires you to decode the FLAC files to WAV first and then delete them after. It's not nearly as simple as Burrrn.

I agree, but he mentioned he used EAC for ripping, so I was curious if he has tried it for burning as well.

I just use ImgBurn.  It also has CD-TEXT writing support, which is nice.

In the past yes I have used EAC to burn.  And yes, as mentioned you have to delete the WAV after.  Not quite as convenient as Burrrn.

In the past I tried using ImgBurn to burn ISO to DVD but was not having luck.  Think it might have been my drive, I'm not sure.

Did not know ImgBurn can burn FLAC and make audio CD.  Are you using it with Windows 8?

I'll give it a try: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/topic/...-using-imgburn/

Just tried ImgBurn and it does not even recognize my FLAC files.  When I go to the folder from within ImgBurn there is nothing there.

Also just tried Burrrn and get this message for each file:
ERROR: Cannot open audio file "C:/Users/MyName/AppData/Local/Temp/burrrn_temp/01_01 - Shower The People.wav": No such file or directory
ERROR: C:\Program Files (x86)\Burrrn\burrrn.toc:6: Cannot determine length of track data specification.

I believe ImgBurn requires a plugin for FLAC files

Been a while since I used it but I think it's called MadFlac.

Yeah I did that but still did not work.  I don't know why but I could not get it to even start up because even after I registered madFlac it would popup an error.

So last night I decided to Give "Nero Classic 2015" a try since a local electronics store called Fry's had it on sale for $19.

I must say that Nero Classic 2015 works excellent.  Quick, easy, good interface, and makes great audio CDs.  I would recommend it for burning FLAC to CDs.

I know it seems that CDs are going out of fashion.  I think that is too bad really as they seem to me a great format for taking from one player to another or letting a friend borrow.  And I think that if the CD is burned from quality FLAC, a much better sound that MP3.

So, you opted for spending 19$ instead of opening foobar2000, loading files, right-clicking and "converting" them to audioCD? :|
To each their own I guess.

I did at this point.  I've been using Foobar2000 on my Windows 7 PC since about 2007.  It was all I used to play my collection of FLAC.  At least initially when I used it alot I found that it was not just plug and play, there were always things you had to learn about it and setup that were not just right up front.  I will install it and figure it out.  But for me Nero was also a good choice because it can do other things with my DVD and Blueray drive for that type of media.  I feel $19 was a fair price since I got some CDs burned for Christmas it was quick and easy.  Way easier and much faster than Burrrn that I was mostly using before.  I had been using Foobar for MP3 conversion as well.  I'll check Foobar out when I have the time.

Edit: Installed Foobar2000 and burninate like you suggested.  And just as I thought it is not just simple plug and play.  I cannot easily find out how to burn the CDs.  Maybe I'm missing something.

Maybe you can help me.  I installed that plugin and I see it listed in components.  But I see no options in the menus for burning CDs.
As is typical with Foobar there is no instructions on how to install it.  Maybe I did not install it correctly.  In my list of components it is the only one that is highlighted.  I put the file in the Components in the main Foobar directory on the C: drive.  Ideas?

Thanks I did not see that initially.  But this is what I get when I try:

"Audio CD burning process failed: Audio track decoding failure: I/O error (win32 #1326)"

Edit: OK seemed Foobar was having issues initially.  I restarted and after it started slowly I was able to burn a CD.  I'll have to try it some more and see if it is still having issues with loading files to burn.

I was just wondering if foobar and Burrrn give a warning when a flac file is not 16bit/44100Hz?

I know I would always decode to wav first, check to be sure all wav files are 16bit and 44100Hz, check the total playing time, and then burn the cd.
I don't care for the little bit of extra time it takes, I just don't like frisbees.

I am not sure, but I think foobar will dither the temporary files down to 16Bit/44.1kHz if they're not in that format already. You could try with a CD-RW, most audio players are able to play it nowadays anyway. Our car ones do, anyway.

I know tpijag already answered your question, but I also provided the instructions in the post you quoted *cough*
I admit "converting" to an audioCD isn't the first thing that pops into mind, but it does make sense after you think about it.
