Version 1.x needs to download the component. https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_bitcompare
The 2.0 betas have it already.

Bitcompare, like ABX, needs at least two selected tracks so there is something to compare against. A hotkey you set up for these functions will work just fine if you select two tracks and then hit the hotkey.

A this topic not must be in branch "3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k)"? Hello Case, have inmind through "ctrl" select two tracks? But from me this also not working. A mays make plugin by synchronized plays two and more playlists? At negative answer try create topic in worthy and corresponding branch!

hey there, thanks for the awesome audio comparator taking gap offsets into account. I find it quite useful when i need to compare two audio tracks with different gap offsets - this tool helps to eliminate the difference caused from gap offsets and compare the actual audio.

now, on top of this, im not sure if this tool can be developed into something smarter, to be capable of doing things like:

1. when comparing two audios with different levels of track gain, to eliminate the difference caused by the gain levels and only to compare the real contents of the audio works? Or in other words, given two sets of audio tracks with different gain levels, first step to unify the gain levels, then do the comparison?

2. when comparing two audios with different play speed, to eliminate the difference caused by speed variances and compare the real contents?

I am not sure how valid and how niche these are. It's likely that we are not supposed to rely on binary comparison tools to make such comparisons. and instead, we should make use of more professional audio tools like Adobe Audition etc. to do so.
However, just wondering if there is any tools or methods that are as efficient to use as this binary comparator tool - without having to manually align the offsets/alter the gain levels/unify the play speed in professional audio tools; and be able to return a readable summary of comparison results like what binary comparator tool does.

Thanks for any thoughts/insights in advance!

Does foobar's binary comparator only work on two tracks? I want to search for duplicate files, but I can't load this (which seems to support multiple) because it's a duplicate component. Can I just rename this one? MD5 doesn't seem reliable because it seems to also check metadata, rendering it useless.

Yes.

MD5 on only the audio, not on the file! FLAC has it already - WavPack/TAK/OptimFROG can optionally write it. For everything else, use https://foobar.hyv.fi/?view=foo_audiomd5 , which will write an <AUDIOMD5> tag.
Caveat: MP3 files "must be" front-tagged, because how ffmpeg sometimes reading end-tags as audio. (foo_audiomd5 uses ffmpeg.) So remove ID3v1 from MP3s. ID3v2.3 is OK.

Yes.

Nope. If you had 2 copies of the same album, you can add them both a playlist, one after another. If an example consisted of 10 tracks, track 1 would be compared against track 11, track 2 against 12 etc. So long as the entire selection is even numbered, there is no limit.

Yeah, you are right of course.. You cannot compare A to itself - that's one request of mine to save myself from my errors - but yes you can compare AB, AC. And AB, BC, CD, DE, EF, FG.

Hello! I have a question regarding the gap offsets Binary Comparator finds.

I have some CD singles in FLAC of the same song which "become identical" after Binary Comparator removes/truncates those gaps. My question is, is there a tool that can remove these gaps from the files permanently? Can it be done with a foobar2000 setting/component or an external editor? Thank you.

Uh-oh, I would be careful. Take a live album. Continuous music. Don't crop away anything there.

What I would do, since they are singles, is a folder of duplicates. Move them over there.
(Well if they are one track on a CD-maxi or something, and turns out to be identical-except-such-gaps, then I wouldn't remove part of an album, but then I wouldn't tamper with it either.)

Alternative: Give it a tag. Say, <AUDIODUPE>. Populate it with the other one's MD5. Say in ReFacets - where you can check whether there are more items with the same "tag", then make a custom field that takes AUDIODUPE if that is present, otherwise MD5. (Myself I use Case's eminent https://foobar.hyv.fi/?view=foo_audiomd5 to MD5 up lossies too. Beware that ffmpeg sometimes doesn't get the end of MP3s right, so you cannot trust the audiomd5 with ID3v1 or APEv2 tags in MP3.)
