Playback error: No more threads can be created...

I'm running windows vista. I have never had this issue before, suddenly when I try to play a song (any song at all) I get this error:

"Unrecoverable playback error: No more threads can be created in the system.  (0x800700A4)"

I've searched for it but can't find a match on any message boards.
This is completely out of the blue, it was working fine last time I used it. What's gone wrong?

Playback error: No more threads can be created...

EDIT: I tried backing up my playlists and layouts and uninstalling.
Deleted all directories... everything was gone. I downloaded it again and it STILL has this issue so I'm wondering if it could be something wrong with my computer. If anyone has ideas, please let me know... I have no idea what  this error message refers to.

*Sorry,  for some reason I cannot edit my original post.

Posts can't be edited after one hour has passed. And it's a good thing because absolutely no-one would have seen the new information you would have added with the edit.
You can use Task Manager to show the number of threads each process has created. I'd be curious to know what is shown for your foobar2000 instance. For reference a clean install here has 15 threads during playback. My custom layout with plenty of components uses 29 threads during playback.
When you uninstalled and reinstalled foobar2000, did you try playback immediately before you reinstalled your components and restored settings?
Does audio playback work for you with some other program?

I checked task manager, there weren't any tasks or processes or threads? (what is a thread?) for foobar at all. Foobar didn't appear on any of the lists.

I downloaded IObit uninstaller and force uninstalled, turned off user account control, went through permissions and took control, and regained access to foobar folder. Went through the directory and deleted everything. Restarted, re-downloaded, things are working again (songs are playing fine, with no error.)

I have no idea which one of these things did the trick. I think it had something to do with permissions, I was unable to run the uninstaller and access the programs/foobar2000 folder. Apparently all the weird permissions are a common issue with Vista; I've had problems with permissions before but never to the point where it affected an application's performance. Very annoying!

To answer your questions:
* Music files opened fine in windows media player and VLC player.
* I tried downloading songbird and musicbee and neither one could get music to play (each one had a different random-seeming error. In musicbee I got "Unable to start playback (error=BASS_ERROR_BUFLOST)" which apparently can be caused by multiple issues. I hate itunes, did not want to download, so I did not attempt playback with that.
* Both times I reinstalled foobar I tried to run before installing components and settings; but it somehow remembered my settings anyways (even though I had deleted every foobar file I could find.) I don't know why this was.
* I have my playlists, components, and layouts saved in a separate folder on my desktop and it seemed to find this automatically. It's almost like it didn't completely uninstall.

I still have no idea what happened but hopefully this will help if someone ever has the same issue. Thanks for all your help!
