Seeking Objective Sub Review Links

Hi all. I'm technically knowledgeable but not up on the current market in $800 dollarish subs [maybe $1k if really special] My other speakers are flat to 80 Hz or so and since I have Audyssey MultiEQ XT a sub with a dead flat frequency response isn't as important as it usually would be due to its special attention to the sub channel, plus my place is small, so one sub should do.
Ten years ago when I was more up on the current market the goto brands were the likes of SVS, HSU, and Velodyne. Are they still the big players? Does anyone have any objective reviews, with measurements, they might link me to?

I want low bass extension, loud output at very low frequencies yet low distortion. I prefer acoustic suspension over bass reflex but it isn't a deal breaker. Black is a nice color.

I don't want to pay for: loud 80 Hz output, compact box  [read: giga watt internal amp], ruler flat FR due to parametric EQ., etc.

Unfortunately the objective  reviewer I trusted most on this topic, Tom Nousaine, has passed away. [I posted a link in the News Submissions section should anyone care.]

If you were in the UK I'd suggest a look at http://www.bkelec.com/ as they seem to be well regarded.

Thanks everyone.

Arny, I only glanced at that link but it seems great. Do we know anything about who actually runs it?
