Gracenote modus operandi

I have a LG BP-630 blu-ray player and specifically playing CDs and Audio files, it works like this:

When you use original audio CD, it communicates with Gracenote server through the internet and it fetches cover art and song names for that album.
The art automatically fills up the CD/music icon in the interface and it remains like that. (The "it should be like this with every file" feeling comes up).

However, when you play FLAC files, and you try to fetch art, you get a pop-up information only with small artwork and a list of tracks, for no more than 20 seconds and then the pop up vanishes, back on the plain default UI with no art and song names. The info never fills the CD/music icon and song names are still listed by filenames. It is obious that they implemented a different routine to treat the command "INFO" for music digital files than with audio CD.

I was wondering if anyone have a clue on how Gracenote works within players like this.
From the behaviour described, the player indeed fetches art with other information and store in its memory for a while. But I was wondering... If this routine can be "faked".
Could it be possible that if one does a certain trick by fake-providing those contents in albums' folder, would it be enough to make fool of it and emulate the same behaviour as it works with original audio CDs?

NB: The blu-ray does not read ID3 Tags or any kind of album art, either with FLAC or MP3, embedded or as JPG on directory...

Would be interested to know if anyone ever wondered this...

Have you tested that by disconnecting from your network (and turning-off your WiFi)?

Some tests here.
Seems that it only works if it finds network.

Audio CD - Gracenote automatically fills everything with no intervention (if it finds network):

Audio CD - Network turned off - Gracenote doesn't even run

FLAC Files with album art embedded and with folder.jpg on album directory

FLAC Files - Pressing  the "INFO" command on remote, Gracenote runs...

FLAC files - And then pops up a supid pop up message, last no more than 30 seconds.

FLAC files - network off. Warning that couldn't find network.

Same happens with any digital music file AAC, MP3, etc.
