What is the best way to embed album art into FLAC?

I've been getting art and storing as folder.jpg ... but I don't have much yet in this format --- so I don't need to know how to correct in batch. Just looking for the most efficient way to embed art (preferably using foobar2000 itself seamlessly).

Thanks for any advice you can give.

For me easiest way for managing embedded pictures is making my own keyboard shortcuts (Alt+F for front, Alt+B for back and Alt+D for disc) and using it on selection that contain all tracks from certain release. Additionally I have Alt+I shortcut, to open picture manager for single file (picture manager works only for single files). For emergency purposes there's also Shift+I shortcut on my foobar to remove all images with just one keystroke. Just go to Preferences and Keyboard Shortcuts - you can create there your own shortcuts.

But what component are you using to do this?

It'd probably help if someone told OP how to access artwork tagging in foobar.

foobar's artwork handling capabilities are located under Tagging in the right-click context menu. If you don't see them there, you can go to Preferences > Display > Context Menu and tick the relevant boxes to make them display, or you can simply hold Shift while right-clicking. And of course you can also bind those context menu entries to keyboard shortcuts as alluded to in an earlier response.

I like Album Art Exchange more.

The quality of the images is more consistently good on album art exchange which is nice. However, album art exchange may be pretty much useless to people which don't listen to mainstream music. It also contains predominantly cover art for albums. Even among mainstream artists, cover art for singles and EPs is rarely available.

If I'm understanding all the foregoing correctly:
  • I can use foobar to retrieve album art to a file (using Biography Server component, if not others of which I am unaware)
  • I can manually embed art that has been retrieved to a local file (using the context menu to Attach Pictures)

but nobody has a solution for retrieving and embedding in one fell swoop?

I don't embed album art, takes more space having an image for each file rather than one image for each folder. It's slower too and annoying to manage, easier to mod one image than edit every image in the album. It's better for archiving to, to mass store and covert all images or change the resolutions.
